The stand assembly "can fail and cause the television to tip over unexpectedly, posing a risk of impact injury to the consumer."
Vizio has issued a recall for repair of its 39- and 42-inch E-Series flat-screen HDTVs, due to a risk of the units tipping over.
According to the official recall, the stand assembly on the units "can fail and cause the television to tip over unexpectedly, posing a risk of impact injury to the consumer."
So far, Vizio has received 51 claims of the recalled TVs falling over, though no injuries have been reported.
The HDTV sets—available at Best Buy, Meijer, Target, Walmart, Amazon, Costco, Sams, and other nationwide retailers—were sold between December 2013 and June 2014, at prices ranging from $370 to $450.
"Consumers using the stand assembly should immediately detach the stand, place the television in a safe location and contact Vizio for a replacement stand assembly," the company said.
And while the issue does not directly affect folks with wall-mounted sets, Vizio highly recommends that those customers also request the replacement stand assembly, in case its is needed in the future.
In total, 245,000 units have been recalled, including three different models: the 39-inch E390-B0, 39-inch Smart TV E390-B0, and 42-inch Smart TV E420i-B0.
Check the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website for a list of serial numbers. Or enter your serial number in the Vizio support website to verify if your TV is affected by the stand recall.
The company is also extending its standard one-year limited warranty to two years from the date of purchase, to ensure that users "can continue to enjoy their TV with full peace of mind."
